Comparison of Alternate Light Sources
(ALS)

When reading an ad for a new Alternate Light Source,
if the claim seems Outrageous or Extreme...

...it usually IS!

Today, you don't have to look very hard for companies advertising, their "Latest", and "Greatest", and "Revolutionary", Alternate Light Source "Breakthrough".
"Incredible", "New Technology" that allows the user to have a "small footprint" Forensic Light Source, that has the "look and feel" of a flashlight.

The lack of performance of battery powered flashlights was shown to be their biggest failing, some years ago.  LED's are just an extension of the old concept.  Like Lasers of the past, LED's are limited to 3-5 output bands and just don't come close to the Arc lamp FLS systems which feature 6-12-20+ wavelengths.  This is why thousands of serious Law Enforcement agencies use Forensic Light Source units that feature 8, 12 and more wavelengths. Why should they go backwards to fewer wavelengths and MISS evidence at the crime scene or in the laboratory?
